Customer Reviews

Samsung PN50A550 1080p Plasma HDTV
Well, I struggled long and hard between a plasma and an LCD. Needless to say, the plasma won. This is a really nice TV. The colors are rich and vibrant, blacks are deep and true and the menu system works really well. The down side about this unit is its refresh rate, at least I'm pretty sure that this is what's responsible for this 1, and only negative. While watching fast motion, the pixilation is rather disappointing. When a rapid scene is displayed, the smooth, flawless picture is transformed into these large square blocks of distorted pixilation - regardless of an HD or SD signal. Although this is a minor inconvenience, in every other way the set is amazing. The menu system allows you to tweak the displays in ways that I have not seen other sets do. Also, just an FYI - I was having issues with random bursts of brightness which a firmware upgrade totally addresses. Those random bursts of brightness no longer exist. On one last note, I have yet to see anything displayed in 1080p so I do not know what the picture is like but I can only conclude that it would be AMAZING. Kudos to AMAZON - as usual AMAZON ROCKS - received unit 3-days before the estimated date - with FREE shipping!

Happiness to disappointment
While I do love this plasma, and it does everything I want with tonnes of inputs, clear picture etc. I must say that after owning this TV for 1 year it died. I came home to no power, no standby and barely a hope. I have been reading online that there is a number of these that have a similar problem. Thankfully samsung is one of the last 2 year warranty companies. I'm still waiting on the repair and will update on the status of how or what was wrong with it.

Amazing picture, great contrast, blows away our Sharp Aquos
We bought this and the Sharp Aquos LC46D64U at the same time.
The Samsung is amazing. Movies are a whole different experience from the Sharp. sound++, contrast++, color++.
The most noticeable difference are dark shots. The Samsung has the contrast to bring it out while we are squinting to see things with the Sharp.
If this is fully a LCD vs Plasma issue, then our vote is entirely for the plasma.
Also, the Samsung doesn't seem to pump out much heat while the Sharp pumps it out like a heater from the front of the screen.
Finally, we were sold on this product at Best Buy. However, after they strung us out for 1 hour at the store (just 5 miles from our house) we were told that deliver of the item which they had in stock was going to take 3 weeks. Amazon got it to us in 4 days and it only took 5 minutes to order. Next time, I think we'll skip the electronics store.

Very Happy!
Bottom line is this TV is amazing in almost every way. Blue-Ray is fantastic! HDTV is superb! PS3 and Xbox360 is breathtaking. Haven't encountered any ghosting or burn in yet. As everyone says the only thing that its lacking is a loud-booming sound but that shouldn't stop anyone from getting it, since that's an easy fix. You wont be disappointed.

Cracked for no reason but somehow it is my fault!!!!
So I bought the 50' Samsung Plasma TV after being rated #1 by Consumer Reports... guess what? after 5 weeks of TV watching it cracked internally and Samsung says they won't cover it because it's physical damage even though the TV is like new, no scratches, nothing, we were just watching and puff... a noise comes from it and a line starts appearing from the left top corner across the screen... so I go online and I realize that I'm not alone, many people had the same issue.

BEWARE!!!!!!

I have discovered that I'm not alone, I found more than 20 people with the same issues (only the ones that have posted comment, I'm sure there are more reading), so I'm confident it's a product defect since I did not do anything to the TV. Wide Color Enhancer/Cold Cathode Flourescent Lamp

The NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) has established the color standards all TVs in America try to meet. And typical LCD TVs only meet about 72% of this standard. Samsung LCD HDTVs use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp backlights to give you 92% coverage of the NTSC standard, ensuring truer, more breathlessly vivid colors.

Samsung’s exclusive Wide Color Enhancer technology delivers more brilliant colors, even in bright areas of the picture where blues and greens are washed out on conventional screens. The system displays wider color reproduction, showing you truer colors – the fresh green of spring foliage, the intense blue of the summer sky.

HDMI is the best performing interface for displaying an HD source on an HDTV. A wide variety of multimedia devices can be connected to the set through the HDMI 1.3 inputs and the handy rear USB port.

Once connected, users can easily access device menus and manage and display content through the newly redesigned Wheel Key Remote control and the HDTV’s sophisticated content management interface.

Audio Features

TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including internal television speakers and headphones. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 5.1 channels. High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the two hidden, downward-firing side-mounted 2.2-channel dome speakers built into the TV.

SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass.

TruSurround XT audio also adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.
  • Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
  • TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
  • The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.
Stereo broadcast reception is offered for MTS and SAP with 181-channel capacity. A sound leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.
If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Samsung LN22A650 22in 720p LCD TV
This is my first LCD TV (that I kept). I read a lot of reviews on several web sites before I bought it. I've had it for four months now.

I am very pleased with the picture and sound quality. I am not an audiophile, so theater-quality sound is not important to me. It's not bad sound, just not high end. I live in a travel trailer, so I can sit at the right distance from the TV for comfort and best viewing quality. It was a bit difficult to get used to the rectangle viewing area instead of the old square type at first, but now I hardly notice it. I don't use the HD feature. I find the picture is plenty sharp enough without it.

I also like the Energy Star rating. I often run my electronics from an inverter from batteries powered by solar panels. The Samsung draws VERY little juice compared to my old Magnavox analog TV.

The "touch of color" bezel is interesting, but wasn't a selling point for me. It has a well-designed base pedestal, unlike an el-cheapo I bought from WalMart that kept wanting to fall over. I took THAT one right back.

One thing I learned from the cheapo TV is that even though the packaging SAYS the TV is compatible with major satellite TV remotes, this is not always true. The cheapo would NOT work with my DirecTV remote no matter what I tried. Wish I could remember the brand of that first one, because their customer service was lousy, too.

I would recommend this TV.

Bad customer service and repair!!
I purchased this tv in 2008, nice tv, I like it. After 6 months I had a problem with it. I called Samsung and told them that I wanted a new tv. Samsung said that "that is not their policy" and told me to send it back for repair. I told them that the tv was going to get banged up in shipping and at the repair factory. I get the tv back and it is scratched. I hook up the tv and it starts doing the same thing that I sent it it for. I call Samsung again and they tell me that they will send me out a new one. Why didn't they just do that from the beginning? I now have to wait until I get an e-label for shipping and send it back again, when they get it they will send me a new one. What a major pain!!

good tv, confusing advertising
Samsung LN22A650 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color
I researched this tv on samsung's website and others and couldn't figure out if it was actually a 3000:1 ratio or 5000:1 ratio. it was advertised as both, depending on where you looked. i took a chance and paid the extra hundred or so dollars, only to find out it was 3000:1. so why did i pay more money? otherwise, the tv's picture is super sharp and i have no complaints about that. the sound is horrible...you have to max it out just to get a medium volume, but my previous tv was the same way. set up was easy and the touch of color is nice, but not worth an extra hundred. overall, it's a great little 22" tv...probably better than most.

Finally still Samsung
I tried Vizio, Sony and Samsung for the same size TV and finally decided to keep Samsung becasue of its picture quality. The color of the previous two TVs are not that natural and have a red tint on everything, no matter how I adjust it. The colors of Samsung is turer to life. Sound is OK. The only complaint is that I thought it has a USB input opening but it does not have.

Buy It Now Or Wait for the price to drop....
Received 2/19/09..Congrad's Amazon, Came in on time & in great shape.
Setup was quick and easy (almost took 45 min.)
Very happy. Read other reviews on the plus side.
Neg. side is the sound (solved by conecting speakers to the headphone jack)btw, stand could be better but OK. Your gonna love this TV.
PS. On antenna went from 6 stations to 26...

Razor Sharp Picture
Purchased this TV for master bedroom. Perfect size as room is quite large, 19' x 20', and you can easily see the picture and read the screen text from the bed. Colors and clarity as well as resolution are outstanding. TV arrived in a couple of days and setup was easy. Great value from Amazon....

Very good
Very good LCD Tv.
Escellent image, functions
The speakers' sound is too weak, but if you connect with a home theater it won't be any problem.

My Wife Loves her new TV
The shipping container arrived with a four inch hole in the side, but the TV was not damaged. It installed easily and my wife loves it! Thanks.

i can't say enough!
i bought this from a seller i found on amazon at christmas time and i dealt with them directly. i got this for 6.00 over two months ago after much research with no tax and free shipping. it showed up at my door 2 days later. i bought this for my bedroom and it's been played a lot! i could'nt be happier with it! the picture is stunning! a clear, crisp and sharp picture! the contrast ratio is only 10,000-1 so it looks better as the day wears on but i'm telling you the picture and clarity is first rate! you only need 720p for a hdtv 32" or smaller so my requirments when deciding on a bedroom tv were: 32", the 0.00 price range, a name brand, the best overall tv possible at the best price and a high energy star rating because i sleep with it on all night. after looking at sony, samsung, toshiba and others i decided on this one. panasonic has been building quality tv's for 50 years and this set proves it and it has the highest energy star rating in it's class. even the sound is good, not as deep and rich sounding as the 46" ,000.00 hd/lcd samsung in my front room but for a 6.00 32" lcd/tv pretty damn good!.........p.s. for your living room hdtv you would want a 25,000-1 contast ratio or more for viewing in all kinds of light. my samsung is 25,000 - 1 and it looks great morning, noon and night in any kind of light!............update 6/21/09...........after 6 months of ownership i couldn't be happier with this unit! has met and exceeded all my expectations. good job panasonic!

Smooth
I bought this one at the same time that I bought the 50" plasma. Though I have already had a problem with the plasma, this one has been up to expectations. Easy to set up, and I have no idea what is meant in other reviews about green casts....the picture & color are excellent.

Purchase Toshiba DLP TVs at your own risk
I initially bought a 56hm168. Within one year, both the lamp exploded (glass all over) AND the light engine died. Toshiba replaced the TV with a 57hm167. A year and a half later - the light engine dies - and this time it is out of warranty. This is a totally different TV, with different production runs, and both have had light engine failures. Cost to repair (if you do it yourself) is 2 for the part. If you have a tech come out and do it, well over 00. Even getting Toshiba to fix the orginal TV while it was under warranty was as painful as pulling teeth. It took almsot 4 months for them to get it done. While the image may be nice on these TVs, and the price attractive, the quality of the product is abysmal. DO NOT BUY THESE!!!

Excellent HDTV
I purchased the TV from Tiger Direct through Amazon about a year and a half ago for 00. I couldn't be more happy with it. I spent a lot of time walking through department stores (Best Buy and Circuit City) to find what kind of TV I wanted to buy, this TV always stuck out. For the screen size and price, you couldn't find a better buy. I was looking at Mitsubishi's 57" DLP first, but researched this TV with it and found that they're basically the same TV, but the Toshiba was 0 less.

The picture quality on the DLP rivals LCDs and Plasmas, hands down. I have a long living room so having a LCD or Plasma, I wouldn't really benefit from the really wide viewing angles. With DLPs, I don't ever have to worry about picture burn-in that the Plasma might experience. With LCDs, the closer you get to the picture, you can actually see the individual LCD "rectangles". You won't get that from DLP. The closer you get, all the round images actually stay round.

I have Toshiba's HD-A30 HD DVD player and the picture is immaculate. I have plans to buy a Blu-ray player also, but I'm waiting until black friday for the good deals. This TV has a built-in HD tuner so with a HD antenna, I get all the local TV channels in hi-def for free.

Lemon
Got it in Aug. 2007, wish I would have looked here first. I didn't use it much, mostly for games and movies, not much television-watching. Tried to turn it on last night, and the screen wouldn't turn on. Eventually got a pattern of led's on the front panel that indicated lamp not working (a yellow led with red flashing). There was also a voice that came from the television that said "Lamp not working" heh. I called Toshiba, and the guy had me hang up and take the lamp out, then call him back. He asked me if I could see any damage (I couldn't see any, but didn't know what I was looking for). He said that it was probably not the bulb, but the housing, and that I should take it to the nearest service dealer (40 miles away, ugh). Felt like I was getting the runaround. I'll just give my money to some other company in the future, and be sure to check here before I do :) . Lesson learned. It's a shame, because I liked the television when it worked.

Bang for buck... top notch
I can't write a glowing enough review for this tv. Yes, I have a few minor quibbles... Silk Screen Effect being the only one of significance (not that significant, really) but all in all, this is a fantastic set. Accepts a 1080p/24 input (reframes to 60, but does an impeccable job) means you can watch the new Hi-Def movie formats as they were meant to be seen. Standard definition tv when moved to the 4:3 format is tolerable.

I have mine hooked up to the HD-a35 toshiba HD-DVD player and I cannot tell you how many peoples jaws have dropped.

This tv, in all honesty, was a steal!

Good TV
This tv has great picture quality, though not quite as good as some of the other top tier tvs in the same segment, the price more then makes up for that being a few hundred dollars cheaper. I have all three consoles hooked up and all look great. Blu-Ray on the PS3 looks great specially if you use HDMI. Also, until recievers have more HDMI hook ups, this tv has enough to hold you over with three. Unfortunately, non HD sources don't look quite a good. My Wii which is hooked up through component just looks blurry. This is obviously a problem due to this sets large size, all tvs of this size share this problem with blurred images of non HD sources. I have Direct TV HD and it looks great, however, be wary since lots of the "HD" channels aren't true HD yet, just less compression then before.

I did have a problem with the bulb going out after a few weeks, however, since I'm still within the first year of warranty, they replaced it within a week at no charge. Unfortunately, you do have to send back the broken bulb which is a nuissance, but it's a small price to pay.

Not only does it feature a Cinespeed XHD LCD panel capable of state-of-the-art 1080 progressive lines of HDTV resolution and two HDMI input ports, but it also has a built-in Ethernet jack, allowing you to access digital photo and audio files from your home network using the included universal glow remote. You can even connect a PC and have the set double as a computer monitor.

The Value of LCD TVs
Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 42HL196 is only 4.85 inches deep and weighs less than 64 lbs. without the stand. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.

Video
Response time is the interval an LCD screen takes to switch from its darkest color to its lightest color and back again, measured in milliseconds (ms). This screen's response time is 8 ms, which is at the faster and better end of the spectrum. This screen is likely to display cleaner, sharper images during high-action scenes and display fewer image artifacts than other screens in its class. And because the set has a 12-bit digital processor, it can display many times more shades of gray and levels of color than 8-bit systems can. The set is rated with a 176-degree viewing angle, so the picture will be viewable from nearly any part of the room. While it has a CableCARD slot and built-in QAM digital cable tuner, it lacks an ATSC tuner that would bring in terrestrial or over-the-air HDTV signals.

HDMI Compatible
The set comes with two built-in High-Definition Multi-media Interface (HDMI) ports. HDMI is an interface format that provides uncompressed digital audio and video directly from a DVD player, next-generation game system, or some other digital video source. It represents the current state of the art in high-definition video and sound because the information never has to be converted into an analog format or compressed. Another benefit of HDMI is that it puts all that information into one cable and one easy-to-use connector.

Audio
SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, creates a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio as well as a directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The cabinet includes stereo speakers, but the TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.

Parent Features
The 42HL196's sleep timer allows you to set the television to automatically shut off after a preset duration. It's a handy and common feature to modern TVs, but the 42HL196 takes it a step further. Game Timer shuts the TV off after set duration and can only be turned on with a special lockout code. The Video Lock feature allows the user to lock out selected inputs, which is handy when limiting a child's access to video games. Of course the built-in V-Chip functionality makes it so parents can set a threshold content setting and effectively lock inappropriate TV content out of the home. Another handy filtering feature is the 42HL196's Channel Lock, which password protects channels you select.

Other Features
The 42HL196 comes with a TV Guide on screen interactive program guide that provides a searchable, easy to read listing for eight days in advance. It includes the G-Link IR blaster for controlling a cable box. It also features double window/multi window POP, allowing you to view two sources at once and get snapshot images of up to 9 channels at once.

42-inch Widescreen
A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 42-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that, and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the 42HL196 is ideal for viewing distances of nine to 16 feet.

Here is a list of the set's audio, video, and data connections:

  • A/V input: 2 (back and side)
  • A/V output: 1
  • ColorStream HD component video input: 2
  • G-Link/record out: 1
  • HDMI input: 2
  • Optical TosLink digital audio output: 1
  • PC monitor input: 1 (VGA 15 pin D-Sub)

no 1080p
I have black vertical lines, screen burn-in and no 1080p input. The upscaling is a decent job I find the picture is pretty nice looking, but if I wanted 1080i I would have bought that. Just stay away.

Not 1080p, but a nice TV nonetheless
First off, no, it's not really a 1080p TV, Toshiba claim that it converts the image to that. If that's important to you, look elsewhere.

However, if you're ok with a good quality 1080i screen, this is a good buy. The various inputs work, and you can get more than the VGA 1026x768 VGA res if you have a DVI video card on your PC and a DVI-HDMI cable, only the D-sub connector is limited. We have ours connected to Cable, Xbox 360, Apple TV, and Wii no problem. The picture quality is good, and the TV is nice to watch.

The network connectivity is a bit limited. The TV can display images, and can play Mp3 files, but only seems to read the top level folder, and there are limitations on the number of files it can cope with. There are dozens of better ways to get those features though and I'm not sure who would be swayed by this as a feature anyway. I suspect the programmers got bored just making menus and decided to stick that in!

It's a nice TV overall, and well worth it the asking price, just don't be surprised when it won't take 1080p inputs.

Not advertised correctly
I bought this TV last Spring and am very pleased with it.HD and regular DVDs look great running on a Toshiba A-2. I was kind of upset because I thought I was getting 1080p but not the case. That kinna pissed me off cause I saved up to get the VERY best I could afford and then find out 1080i is the limit on this baby. Still a killer picture tho.

DOES NOT ACCEPT 1080p SIGNAL!
Hi, people.
I've just talked to toshiba center and they told me the TV actually does not accept the 1080p video input. They say it's "1080p" because it always shows 1920x1080 no matter what is the input signal, but it's an interpolation of it... they confirmed that the TV DOES NOT ACCEPT 1080P INPUT SIGNAL.
The TV is fine, but i'm VERY DISAPPOINTED with its description. This "1080p" name is a durty sales strategy. I was looking for a true 1080p television (that can truly accept a 1080p input) and i bought this one and now i would spend at least 400 bucks returning the TV and buying a new one... result: i'll keep this TV, but unsatisfied... i've been made a fool.
If you're gonna buy this product, be aware of this issue.

BEWARE!
Let me make this short. Beware when Toshiba says FULL 1080P, good chance it is not! Bought the tv and hooked up ps3 and no 1080P. Called up Toshiba and got some real bulls__t! Liars, and will never buy from them again!

Panasonic goes above and beyond the expected for out of warranty
I bought a TH42PZ77U and had a power surge that knocked out the power supply about 3 months after the warranty expired.

As this component was under designed Panasonic sent someone out to repair it and upgrade the TV. FREE of charge? Even after the warranty expired.

I will always buy Panasonic first.

Panasonic Known Issues
Like several others have already mentioned, we were extremely pleased with this TV until it refused to turn on 6 weeks after the 1 year warranty expired. After TWO weeks, the servicing subcontractor came with a new part. It's basically the brain for the TV. After several emails and phone calls, Panasonic said we did not have to pay. The servicer said this is a known problem with this TV and said he does a couple of repairs a week. We don't understand why there hasn't been a recall. Since they know what the problem is now, we can only hope that the new TVs being sold will not have this problem.

case clicking noise is terrible
TH-42PZ77U, as of 12/2/08 have owned for 362 days. Now about every 30 seconds hear this loud case popping noise from the rear of the set, seems to have gotten worse in last month. Tech rep coming out next week, will be covered under 1 year warranty. See lots of this complaint on similar Panasonics on the web, some say to get it out of vivid mode and turn down the brightness, others say there is a special kit from Panasonic that has felt pads they install in the case somewhere. Panasonic guy on phone said they all do it but not all the time like I described. It's a thermal problem that is causing the cracking/popping sound of the case. Anyone else have this problem ? Great TV otherwise. Seems to occur more when high motion/graphics are being displayed compared to stationary scenes, probably pulling more current and generating more heat.

Great picture, not so great quality
Like a few of the other reviewers, we enjoyed this television for only a few months before it refused to turn on and displayed the dreaded blinking red light. Panasonic is going to send someone to our house in a few days. I wish that I didn't have to worry about how long this set will last.

blank after a few months
I bought this TV from Sears with extended warranty . I loved it until couple months later, It went blank after I turned the power on . I called Sears and the tech came 5 times to fix and he finally couldn't fix it . The problem has been going on for two months now and the broken TV is still at my house ...
Panasonic used to be a really good branch but not any more . I am very disappointed with the TV, Panasonic 1 year warranty service and specially Sears's 3 three years warranty service.
Will not recommend to any one .

One Sheet of Glass Design

Beautiful, elegant, and functional -- a single pane of glass covers the entire front of the television, including the bezel. This design reduces or eliminates the "halo" effect that can occur around lettering and logos with traditional 3-pane designs

Amazing color reproduction

The incredible black reproduction of a Panasonic High-Definition Plasma TV results in impressive contrast and beautiful, natural colors. So you'll get warm, accurate skin tones, gorgeous greens, breathtaking blues and vivid reds. For color that's as rich and bold as life itself, look to a Panasonic Plasma TV.

Consistent brightness from any angle

A Panasonic Plasma combines anti-glare and anti-reflection technology with the natural light-emitting properties of plasma, to give you a super-wide viewing range with a crisp, beautiful image from almost any angle.

Smooth, graceful motion

When you're watching sports or movies with fast-motion graphics, you want a TV that can keep up with the action. With over 900 lines of moving picture, self-illuminating plasma displays eliminate afterimages in fast-action scenes. So whether you're watching a sporting event or an action-packed movie, you'll always get the most impressive viewing experience possible.

24p native reproduction

Movies are shot at 24 frames per second. Unfortunately, TVs operating at 60Hz can only refresh 20 times per second, which means they must drop every fifth frame. With its 2008 Viera PZ85, PZ800, and PZ850 models, Panasonic introduces 24p native resolution, which means 24 frame per second movie content is reproduced frame for frame exactly, making for true-to-source smoothness of motion.

1,000,000:1 Contrast

The Panasonic's Real Black system (a pre-discharge suppression system) and improved panel production processes combine to reproduce outstanding blacks with superb contrast. Each image is richly expressive, from bright scense, like scorching desert landscapes, to dark cave scenes. Compare the image produced by conventional HDTV on the left to the Real Black image produced on the right

More Colors

Viera HDTVs support the xvYCC color profile (Extended YCC Colorimetry for Video Applications), or "x.v. color" for short. Standard RGB color space allows the display of a portion of the colors that are viewable to the human eye. The next generation "xvYCC" color space actually offers  an available range of colors that exceeds what human eyes can recognize.
  • Next-generation "xvYCC" color space supports 1.8 times as many colors as existing HDTV signals
  • Lets HDTVs display colors more accurately
  • Enables displays with more natural and vivid colors

deep color eliminates visible color banding

Deep Color

Where x.v. color expands the available range of colors your HDTV can display, Deep Color increases the number of colors your HDTV can display within that range, for smoother transitions from color to color.
  • Lets HDTVs and other displays go from millions of colors to billions of colors
  • Eliminates on-screen color banding, for smooth tonal transitions and subtle gradations between colors
  • Enables increased contrast ratio
  • Can represent many times more shades of gray between black and white.

Connectivity

Viera flat panel HDTVs interact with an array of high-definition devices and services, making it easy for consumers to access and enjoy content as never before. As of 2008, Viera Link is compatible with Onkyo and Yamaha home theater systems.
Videos and stills recorded on SD cards can easily be viewed via the SD slots on Panasonic Blu-Ray Disc players and Viera HDTVs. Viera Link means easy connectivity via HDMI cables. Finally, consumers can easily operate their Blu-Ray Disc players, DVD recorders and home theater systems with a single remote control device.

Equipped with an RGB input terminal, VIERA can connect with your PC and serve as a large-screen monitor. 4 HDMI inputs to connect all of your devices directly to your television.

long life

Long Life

Panasonic plasma panels are rated to last 100,000 hours, which is about 30 years of regular or 11 years of non-stop usage before the brightness of the display is halved.

Blu-Ray disc player

Get Full HD with Blu-Ray Disc Players

A Panasonic 1080p plasma television is able to render 1920x1080 pixels, but standard DVDs have a resolution of just 720x480. Blu-ray discs output true 1080p High-Definition resolution and have a storage capacity ten times greater than standard DVDs, so no pixel gos to waste.

Fantastic Picture & Average Sound
In complete agreement with other reviewers about the picture. When other ppl (especially with LCDs) look at my TV, they are in awe ... reason is the black levels (which can be seen especially on a good BluRay and HDNET Tv).

A star is subtracted because there's no reason for a TV of this picture quality to have rattling sound at 75% volume. I know most ppl hook up external amp/speakers, but I didn't with this set and I don't like listening to sound from a 74 Chevy Malibu.

Overall great buy.
We needed a new TV for our bedroom to replace an old CRT that stopped working. After researching Plasma vs LCD we went with Plasma because of the darkness of the room...good choice. Looked at several Plasmas at different price points by different manufacturers and found this Panasonic a very strong contender against more expensive models. Great picture and the THX settings work better than setting configuration I could come up with so worth the $$ to us. The speakers are tinny but that was to be expected. As for size, glad we went with 46 vs 42 as we are used to a large screen (65") in the family room.

One slight negative was the ordering/delivery process. The TV's price dropped by 0 before it was even delivered. Amazon wouldn't credit the difference past a certain # of days but they would allow me to refuse delivery and reorder. Seems inefficient as the TV was almost at my house when I had to start the ordering process all over...their loss. Also, the TV qualified for White Glove delivery/setup. The PILOT delivery guys did a good job bringing it to the bedroom and opening the box so I could inspect but were not going to set it up until I explained the white glove inclusion. They said something about it not being on the slip which sounded like b.s. but it all worked out.

Have had the TV for a couple of months now and We love it!!!

Awesome TV! Very pleased. Plasma is the king.
I am so thrilled with this TV.
It looks even better after 100 hr's+ like other reviewers have said.
I was scared with the decisions I had to make; LCD vs Plasma, quality, etc...
I am very anal in regards to picture quality.
LCD just did not cut it.
I do not understand how anyone can by one with the problem the LCD's have with rendering fast motion. 120Hz, whatever. It is still there.

All I can say is I recommend Panasonic Plasma 100%!!!!

46 inch Panasonic plasma tv
([ASIN:B001DSYNB0 Panasonic Viera TH-58PZ800U 58-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV]]
Bought the 46 in panasonic plasma TH-46pz800u. Great TV, Very happy with purchas. Good Price.
Indicated delivery setup, which amounted to asking if I wanted it out of the box. Yes? Wanted to see if it worked. I had to plug in and conect the cable connection. They said they could not connect anything to the TV??
Little misleading on the set up issue.

Other than the set up very happy with the tv and would recommend it

I am in love with this tv
I agonized over LCD vs. plasma, and with the size and prior reviews of this model line, I went with it. I am totally impressed. The alternative at the time (November 2008) was the Samsung 46" lcds (the 650 and 750 series), which were a bit more expensive and not comparable spec by spec--the plasma gave the best value. Plus, this model (at least in the 46" size) was being phased out by Panasonic, and coupled with a 0 rebate toward the purchase of a blu ray (and I bought the BDK35), this was a good bargain. I hooked this up to HD and am now having the same positive reaction to the picture quality. Please note that I bought this one week before Black Friday 2008 and everyone thought I should have waited... well, on the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the price of this TV increased, and by Friday, it was about 0 more and the 0 rebate toward the blu ray was gone. The Black Friday sales all were geared toward lower end and mid range models. If I waited, I would not have gotten the same deal, and eventually would have lost the TV. Only negatives are the thick black bezel and it weighs nearly 100 lbs--but those are plasma TV characteristics.

STAY AWAY!
Purchased two of these TV Units for my Home. Paid over 00 including mounting brackets. I've had nothing but issues with these working! Currently they are less than one year old and now one is in the shop (been there for 3 weeks) and they can't get parts for them! VERY BAD SUPPORT FROM PANASONIC! I purchased these becuase of the good reviews! The picutre is great, but what good are they if they don't work????

update: after 30 days of Panasnoic promises, I still have no TV. I WILL NEVER BUY PANASONIC AGAIN! 3-23-09

Fantastic tv
This tv is by a wide margin the best bang for you buck you can get with a tv. Amazon had it for about 00 in early Jan 09 so don't pay more than that, but at that price it is an amazing deal. Picture is as good or better than any other tv on the market and the sound is very good for built in speakers. The only thing I would change is to add an extra HDMI connector, but that is a minor issue. Great tv, good service from Amazon (white glove arrived on time and delivery guys were helpful, but did not do a full install like other reviews have mentioned), great value.

Severe power problems
I concur with the previous poster that this TV is GORGEOUS (except that it has quite a glare), but more importantly, the TV has severe power problems. I have had the TV for a 11 months. I was IN LOVE with it and had recommended it to everybody. My boyfriend and my dad both bought the exact same TV. However, one week ago, the TV suddenly quit. I only had it on for maybe one hour. I turned it off and it never turned back on again. So I spent over 00 for a TV that lasted less than one year. It's just shy of the warranty expiration date, but one month from now, it'll cost me a lot if I want repairs! Anyway, I'm just hoping it doesn't happen to the other people who bought the TV because of my recommendation!

Awesome!
I've owned this TV for about 7 months now. I bought it at Circuit City for a steal at the time... around ,000 for a 2 week old floor model. With this being my first expensive television purchase, I researched for over a year before I actually bought it. The internet can't come close to comparing these televisions, its best to compare them side by side in the store. I've hooked it to my PC, DVD, and XBOX 360 for comparison and the picture is just unbelievable with all of them!!! I've heard negative remarks about larger models (46"+) having issues pixelating 480P signals. It might be true, but I don't have that problem with this TV.

I think the organic sound coming from the TV is great! You have to remember you are paying for the television itself, not the sound quality (that's what home theatres are for!). I've got it hooked to a Sony 5.1 surround and I don't have any problems at all!

I bought the 3 year warranty from Circuit City because you can never be too safe with an investment like this... are you telling me you are already spending k and won't spend another measly 0 on a warranty? You have to be kidding!

This is definitely the best television I've ever purchased and if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't have picked a lesser expensive set.

What I really wanted when I thought HD!
This is our second plasma monitor. Our first was a Pioneer, years ago, and made me wonder what the big hoopla over HD was about. This monitor helped me to understand! The picture is so sharp, even with non-HD programming. HD images are sharp with clear colors and flawless contrast. The black tones are true, without any greenness or inkiness (both problems with our old Pioneer). My favorite part about it is that I sometimes can't even tell that what I'm watching isn't in HD. It just makes everything look great.

I should add, though, that you need to take the time to set up the color saturation, brightness and contrast. When we first plugged it in and turned it on, the image was awful. My first thought was that all HD monitors were crap and that it was just a fad. But once my husband worked out the kinks in the image, I was sold. I could tell the difference the first time I saw it, before he even told me. So take the time to get to know your TV and learn how to make it work for you (or get someone that will do it for you) and you'll be thrilled!

And finally, you don't want it too close to your face. When we first got this monitor, we had a smaller set up for our living room. The screen was only about 8 feet from the couch. This was fine for our smaller screen, but with this one it made all the pixels way too obvious. Then we moved to a new place and the screen is about 12 feet from the couch. At first it's weird to be so far away from the TV, but it's just what was needed. Bigger may be better, but you need to have the proper distance. If you're closer than 10 feet to your TV stand, then be sure to get a smaller monitor.

This one's a gem
I'm really impressed - I looked at so many TVs but kept coming back to this one --boy, am I glad I did. It's a keeper - gorgeous picture, strong tuner, excellent sound, easy to use remote control, lots of ports, works nicely with my panasonic DVD-recorder through the viera link. I am delighted with it. I was concerned that the 32 inch model might be a little too big for the space I had, so I got the 26 and I think I made the right choice. For close-up viewing about 4 - 6 ft away, it's the perfect size. You don't see the artifacts or dot pattern at all. People made some comments about it not having a swivel base, but it's so light, it's very easy to turn if you need to, and the wide viewing angle is excellent, so for the most part, there's really no need to do that. Set up was intuitive and it took less than 10 minutes to be up and running. The QAM tuner is picking up a lot of extra channels I didn't expect. I'm not using a set top box, just a direct cable to tv (also tried Over the Air via antenna - very nice!) The most impressive thing to me is the black level - it has a really a wonderful contrast without screen glare (* the plastic bezel around the screen can show a reflection, if you have a lamp on, but the screen does not). EXcellent picture -- the blacks are so deep, but there is still detail in the shadows. My main quibble with the viewing experience is the inconsistent quality of the cable feed on various channels, but that is NOT a problem with the tv itself. In fact, I've been very impressed that the standard quality holds up as well as it does on this TV - the high def is amazing, but not all programs are broadcast that way. My advice - don't worry about 720 vs 1080p - you're really not missing anything at this scale, unless you're planning to use it as a computer monitor, which I dont recommend. If I were searching for negatives (which I'm not) I'd say the uncorrected yellow tends to have an ever-so-slight greenish tinge, and the color controls to alleviate that shift are limited. Reds tend to be a little saturated out of the box, but that intensity can be tamed easily. And finally, the SD card processing for a slideshow seems a little slow ( but my card had 10 MB images in it vs smaller jpgs, so that may be the reason for the sluggish display). I'm not buying a tv for slideshows, I'm buying it for tv ... and for that purpose, it is a fabulous choice. I'm sorry that Panasonic discontinued this model - it's getting hard to find... I might want another one...

LOVE THIS HDTV!!
We purchased this particular model because it was rated the top 26" hdtv by Consumer Reports....and they were so right on! This television has a fantastic picture quality, especially when viewed from a side angle. Just a great television for the bedroom. We couldn't be happier.

highly recommended
We recently purchase this Panasonic 26" LCD HDTV and couldn't be more pleased. The picture and sound quality are unbelievable. Setup was very simple and the manual easy to follow. The remote is also very user friendly. I purchased this set based on the Consumer Report recommendation and highly recommend it. If you are interested in a 26" HDTV I don't believe you can do better than this one. It's obvious from the minute you take it out of the box it is a high quality set. One suggestion before buying is to first monitor the internet pricing as it fluctuates a great deal on this model. If you are patient you should be able to get it at a good price. We purchased ours from [...] and it was a very smooth transaction. They did miss their initial shipping date by a few days but it was not a problem.

Panosonic LCD HDTV
This product is just what we thought it would be. We bought it for our bedroom and it is just wonderful, sound, color and options to operate are great esp for the not so tech inclined. We can switch to TV, DVD or SD card in a snap. Would recommend highly. You will not be disapointed.

Panasonic LCD HTV
I had a friend check on consumer reports for the best 26" HDTV.

They gave Panasonic the best rating and that is why I purchased this product.

The most amazing part is that a side view is as great or better than a direct view.

Very happy with it and have recommended it to several other people.
